Bowmanville, ON, May 21, 2017 - Patrick Dussault made an impressive debut in the Ultra 94
Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada presented by Yokohama, this weekend, at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, in Bowmanville, ON. He finished in fourth place at his first race in this series.
For Dussault’s first race in the Lauzon Autosport/Vincent & Dussault Construction n° 77 Porsche GT3 Cup, he managed to make the best of the situation. Fifth on the starting grid, he has been patient and kept putting pressure on the driver in front of him to force him to make a mistake. This strategy paid off. “I knew I was quicker than him, but overtaking is difficult on this fast track. I was the closest I could to force him to make a mistake,” said Dussault.
Fourth at this time, the driver tried to use the same strategy to fight for a podium finish. “I put pressure as much as I could, but I had another driver at my back. I couldn’t make any mistake,” he explained.
Patrick Dussault finally placed fourth on Saturday’s race. “I’m happy of this result. A podium finish would have been great, but I think it was smarter to wait for a mistake,” he said.
On Sunday’s race, Dussault was looking to achieve a similar result. While he was running fourth, he tried to close up the gap with the driver in front on him. Unfortunately, his car spun in turn 5 while he was trying to gain some time. He went back on track to secure a ninth-place finish.
“I was pushing hard, and I made a mistake. That’s unfortunate, because it is obviously the result we were looking for. However, I know that my car is very fast and that it looks good for the rest of the season with GT Racing team,” he concluded.
Patrick Dussault and the Lauzon Autosport/Vincent & Dussault Construction n° 77 Porsche GT3 Cup will be back in action, on June 8 to 11, during the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada weekend, for the third and fourth races in the Ultra94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge presented by Yokohama.
